Crowns

A crown is a tooth-shaped cap placed over a tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Dental crowns often repair broken, cracked, or decayed teeth. They can also be attached to dental implants and function as permanent replacement teeth. In addition, a crown can hold a dental bridge in place, protect a weak tooth from breaking, restore a worn-down tooth, or cover a discolored or misshapen tooth. At Herrera Family Dental, the dental crowns we place can be made from metal, porcelain-fused-to-metal, resin, ceramic, or porcelain. The material used depends on the tooth's location and your preference.

The Procedure for Dental Crowns

Getting a crown usually takes two visits to our dental office. During the first visit, our dentist in Las Vegas, NV, will numb the tooth and surrounding area with a local anesthetic. Then, they will remove decay from the tooth and prepare it for the permanent crown.

Next, the dentist will take an impression of the tooth and send it to the lab where the crown will be made. In the meantime, a temporary crown will be placed over the tooth to protect the prepared tooth. On the second visit, the temporary crown will be removed, and the permanent one will be cemented.

With proper care, dental crowns can last for many years. However, they can become loose over time due to wear and tear. If this happens, it is essential to see a dentist as soon as possible to have it repaired.

The Benefits of Dental Crowns

Aesthetic Enhancement

Dental crowns are custom-made to match your natural teeth's color, shape, and size. This ensures a seamless blend with your smile, enhancing your appearance and confidence.
